Plastisol Coating

plastic coatings video

Coating of components with PVC plastisol.

The coating of components with Plastisol PVC, or 'Vylastic' is unique to Plastic Coatings Ltd. This process involves the coating of metalwork in a rubberised type of coating with thicknesses from 0.5mm up to 5mm (depending upon the mass of the component being processed).

Vylastic or Plastisol coating is an excellent insulator, and as such is used extensively in electrical applications. Further benefits of the insulating properties include a 'warm-to-touch' or soft feel and sound deadening or noise reduction.

In addition the coating is renowned for extreme severe corrosion resistance, excellent chemical (Acid and Alkali) resistance and its ability to resist impact damage or chipping.

The Vylastic coating application process is very similar in principle to the dipping of parts into Fluidised Beds of Thermoplastics. In other words the components are first prepared, pre-heated and then dipped into a tank of coating material.

The difference with this process is that the tank of coating material is a liquid mixture of PVC and Plasticiser. The components are immersed in the tank of coating material while they are hot and remain there until they have cooled to a point where they no longer 'pick up' any further coating material. The parts are then processed through a further heating operation to fully cure right through the thickness of coating.

Often customers require only a partial coating, this can be achieved by either a dip to height application or by a trimming operation after coating. Sometimes a combination of these processes can achieve more complicated partial coating requirements.

Our trade name for the application of plastisols is Vylastic ® PVC dip coating and we use materials such as DM70 and DM60 in Black, Blue or Red.
